Digital Art made for weaving
These are digital art pieces - woven into blankets, then beaded on using traditional Metis Beadwork applique. Why? Blankets have been used as a form of currency in Canada's history - and may have at one time been responsible for the transmission of disease from non-aboriginal to aboriginal people. I really wanted to explore the conflicting theme of a blanket as a gift, a goodwill gesture, a source of warmth and also an agent of destruction. These images are created from my own family photos collaged with images of documents written to them by the newly forming Government and my own drawings and symbols that explore Metis identity.
